// With all offer conditions now fulfilled, closing of the transaction is imminent
// The approved partnership will accelerate CECONOMY’s ambition to become Europe’s most trusted omnichannel retail platform, built on its iconic brands, more than 1,000 stores, and around 50,000 employees
Düsseldorf, 3 November 2026 – The partnership between CECONOMY AG (CECONOMY), parent company of MediaMarktSaturn, and JD.com has received clearance from the European Commission under the Foreign Subsidies Regulation (FSR). This represents the final outstanding regulatory approval as set out in the offer document.
This approval follows the successful Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) approvals of the partnership in Germany, France, Italy, Spain and Austria. With all offer conditions now fulfilled, CECONOMY and JD.com will proceed to close the transaction within the coming days.
Remko Rijnders, CEO of CECONOMY, said: “Our partnership with JD.com is becoming reality and a new chapter is about to begin. Together, we will accelerate our successful omnichannel retail platform strategy. We can now move from strategic vision to concrete implementation, combining the strengths of both companies to create even more meaningful Moments of Trust for our customers.”
Sandy Xu, CEO of JD.com, said: "We look forward to welcoming the CECONOMY team to JD.com. Our ambition is to support CECONOMY in accelerating its growth in a sustainable way, to further strengthen its competitive position in Europe and continue to innovate in an evolving retail market. This approval is positive news for the European retail market and its consumers.”
Partnership preserves and strengthens what makes CECONOMY successful

With JD.com, CECONOMY has a partner who complements its strengths, shares its customer-first conviction, and believes in the future of omnichannel retail. CECONOMY’s foundation is strong: high brand awareness, around 50,000 colleagues, more than 1,000 stores, strong digital capabilities, and the seamless combination of physical and online experiences — the right ingredients to create Moments of Trust with customers.
The partnership is built on a clear conviction: what makes CECONOMY successful today will also drive its success in the future. CECONOMY’s business model and strategy remain unchanged and form the basis of its accelerated growth. The Management Board will continue to stay in charge of driving the company’s business strategy and operations, and JD.com has made binding commitments to safeguard the foundations that matter most, for employees, brands and stores alike.
Approval for closing enables implementation to begin
As the partnership formalizes, both companies will start working together on concrete initiatives to further improve the customer experience, with clear priorities and clear ownership. Expert teams from CECONOMY and JD.com will work together with focus and momentum to turn shared priorities into action. By combining the strengths of CECONOMY with JD.com’s technology, logistics and platform capabilities, the partnership will drive innovation and create even more meaningful Moments of Trust.
